iPad Issuance and Use

ITAC owns a set of iPads available for student use. These devices support on-site data collection during energy assessments and provide access to training and reference materials. This section outlines expectations for students who are issued an iPad.

Eligibility

iPad issuance is determined on a case-by-case basis depending on your role and how frequently you need a device. Students who regularly participate in on-site assessments or need consistent access to ITAC materials are generally prioritized. Issuance decisions are made by the Lead Student and approved by the Faculty Director. You must be an active, paid ITAC employee to be issued a device.

Assignment Period

iPads are assigned on a semester or academic-year basis. Assignments do not automatically renew; continued issuance is subject to re-approval at the start of each new period.

Checkout and Check-In

When you receive an iPad, the following will be recorded in the ITAC equipment log: your name and contact information, the device identifier (serial number or asset tag), the date of issuance, the expected return date, and the condition of the device. The same information is updated when you return the device. Both you and the Lead Student should confirm the recorded condition at checkout and check-in.

Acceptable Use

Your iPad is intended for ITAC-related work, including on-site data collection and photography during assessments, accessing ITAC documentation and training materials, and ITAC-related communication. Limited personal use is fine as long as it does not interfere with ITAC work, compromise the device's security or functionality, or violate any University of Connecticut policies. Do not install software or change device settings in ways that could compromise data security or device integrity.

Loss, Damage, and Reporting

You are expected to exercise reasonable care with your assigned iPad. If the device is lost, stolen, or damaged, report it to the Lead Student as soon as possible and no later than 24 hours after you discover the issue. Depending on the circumstances, the Faculty Director may determine that further reporting to a university office is required. You may be held financially responsible for damage resulting from negligence or misuse.

Returning Your iPad

Return your iPad by the expected return date in reasonable working condition. Before returning it, make sure the device is powered on and functional, any personal accounts or non-ITAC data have been removed, and all issued accessories (case, charger, cable, etc.) are included. Failure to return the device on time, or returning it in unacceptable condition without prior reporting, may result in referral to the appropriate university office.

Acknowledgment

Before receiving an iPad, you will sign an acknowledgment confirming that you have read and agree to the expectations in this section. A copy will be kept in ITAC records.
